POEM
"Patty"
By June Holeman
She's Buck's St Pat in AQHA
a red filly born in '69,
Became the best barrel
horse
for me in her time.
She was long and stout
but not very tall,
15.1 if you stretched her
a big white nose was all.
She was all business
ran flat on the ground,
She was first out the start
gates
but may get beat later
around.
She could run with the best
at the locals or pros,
Could have been a world
champ
but nobody knows.
Cause I sold her on
with many regrets,
We had bills to pay
she had records to set. |
Then she hauled to Tennessee
in an old pickup truck,
To visit Magnolia Bar
and that was good luck.
She had this boy baby
they called Runnerelse,
Magnum's his nickname
means "great" there's no
doubt.
She was one of the great
ones
I should not have sold,
But I'm riding her grandkids
which makes me feel old.
From Ft. Smith to Gillette
and others between,
they placed in futurities
and kept me in the scene.
So they are as great
and many races they've won,
"Patty" would be proud
of the job she has done. |
